AMERI-SLIM
Reset your metabolism for effective weight management

THE NUMBERS

Medical research shows that 90 percent of all dieters regain some or all of the weight originally lost and at least one-third gain more
Nearly two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are overweight, and 30 percent are obese, according to data from the 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
The 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey showed that 31 percent of adults 20 years of age and over - nearly 59 million people -- have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater, compared with 23 percent in 1994
In 1997, only 15 percent of adults performed the recommended amount of physical activity, and 40 percent of adults engaged in no leisure-time physical activity at all

BREAKING IT DOWN

We've all heard the old saying, "You are what you eat." So does that mean sweet people eat a lot of sugar? Do people with excess body fat just eat fat? Of course not. This oversimplification may sound silly, but we've all observed the same puzzle in people around us - often those carrying excess body weight actually eat the same or less food than other, thinner people. On the surface, it doesn't seem to make sense.

But when you begin looking a bit deeper -- say, at the cellular level -- things start to make a lot more sense. That's because weight problems -- the kind that lead to 30% of Americans qualifying as "obese" -- are not caused so much by what we eat as by how what we eat is metabolized in our bodies. And the disrupted metabolic cycle that causes our bodies to improperly utilize the energy and nutrients from the food we eat has one clear-cut culprit: excess insulin.

BREAKING THE EXCESS INSULIN CYCLE

Insulin resistance with the accumulation of excess insulin in the blood is the primary metabolic disturbance contributing to overweight or obesity in most people. Produced in the pancreas to help control glucose (sugar) levels in the blood, insulin is the key hormone that impacts both hunger and storage of ingested calories in the body as fat. Insulin helps the liver store glucose as glycogen and use any excess to form fatty acids that are then transported to adipose cells, where they are stored as fat. Its presence and function in the body is essential to good health, in fact, to life itself. Yet too much of even a good thing can be detrimental.

That's where the idea behind "we are what we eat" begins to make a little more sense. The fact that the modern American diet is overloaded with refined sugars and carbohydrates plays a key role in the excess insulin cycle. Frequent elevations of glucose in the blood over long periods of time result in long-term overproduction of insulin. In fact, with long-term excess of insulin, the receptor sites for insulin on cells (where insulin attaches and causes glucose to enter) start to shut down. Cells become increasingly insulin-resistant while we continue eating a diet that constantly hits our bodies with spikes of blood glucose. The pancreas produces more insulin, and the result is like piling on in a football game.

Beyond the health impacts of this overproduction of insulin -- like diabetes -- there are also direct impacts on weight management. Controlling excess insulin is critical to maintaining a healthy weight, since insulin causes fat to be stored in cells, prevents fat from being released from storage for energy production, and makes people feel chronically hungry.

Most diets fail to work over the long haul because of excess insulin. Even when calories are drastically cut but insulin remains high, fat can't be released from storage in the body, so protein reserves are burned for energy. There is quick reduction of body (protein) weight, but virtually no loss of body fat. What's even worse is when people end their diets and begin regaining weight, which some 90% of dieters will do, the lost protein or muscle tissue is replaced by even more fat.

FLIPPING THE SWITCHES WITH AMERI-SLIM

Most of us would agree that when we're trying to lose weight, we want to lose the fat rather than the muscle. The ingredients in Ameri-Slim aid mightily in that goal by re-setting our metabolic switches to get the metabolism back on track with fat burning. It increases resting metabolic rate without uncomfortable stimulation of the cardiovascular or nervous systems. And it stimulates your body to use, rather than store, fat. Directions for use are to take 1 to 2 capsules 3 times per day, or as advised by your health care professional. Adjust according to effects and results.

Now let's look at the ingredients.

Garcinia Cambogia (HCA)
One of the primary components of garcinia cambogia is HCA, or hydroxycitric acid, which has been found to be effective in inhibiting lipogenesis (fat production). HCA also lowers the body's production of cholesterol and non-essential fatty acids, increases glycogen production in the liver, suppresses appetite, and increases thermogenesis, which is the body's heat production during metabolic processes.

HCA inhibits the work of the cellular enzyme citrate lyase in converting carbohydrates into fat. Carbs are broken down into glucose (which is used directly by body cells for energy). Unused glucose is stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen. After the glycogen storage sites are full, however, excess glucose is converted into fat and cholesterol. Garcinia inhibits this conversion and creates an increase in glycogen storage capacity, which, in turn, reduces food cravings and helps with weight reduction. Garcinia also helps prevent regain of weight lost by dieting.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
Conjugated Linoleic Acid is one of the omega-6 fatty acids found largely in red meat and cheese. It reduces body fat while maintaining lean muscle mass. In fact, CLA can actually reduce the volume of fat cells. In laboratory mice, CLA has been shown to reduce body fat by up to 88%. It also improves insulin sensitivity and enhances the immune system.

CLA is useful not only in the weight reduction phase, but also long-term. A study done in 2000 showed that when dieters stopped dieting and were taking CLA, they were more likely to gain back muscle rather than fat. Plus, CLA has many other long-term health benefits. It helps protect the body against atherosclerosis (a thickening and loss of elasticity in artery walls). CLA is a potent antioxidant and anticarcinogen. Studies have shown it to inhibit cancer cell growth, and it is more strongly anticarcinogenic than the other fatty acids.

In the low-fat health craze that has taken America by storm in recent years, people are tending to eat less of the CLA-rich foods like red meat and cheese. Plus, cattle-feeding processes themselves have decreased the CLA content in meat and milk. For optimal CLA production, cattle need to graze on grass rather than be fed grain in feedlots. For these reasons, a dietary supplement containing CLA is extremely beneficial both to weight loss and overall good health.

Apple Cider Vinegar Extract
Vinegar is one of those common substances that has been used for a variety of purposes for thousands of years. Among the health benefits of apple cider vinegar are a reduction in LDL or "bad" cholesterol, regulation of water content in cells, stabilization of blood sugar levels, and reduction of arthritis pain. Apple cider vinegar is a good diuretic, yet it also contains high levels of potassium to help maintain vital electrolyte levels. It promotes better detoxification by the liver and helps with the digestion of rich, fatty, greasy foods, breaking them down into more absorbable nutrient particles.

Guarana
An herb native to South America, guarana increases mental awareness, fights fatigue, and generally elevates the mood. It contains guaranine, a substance nearly identical to caffeine, except that it is fat-soluble and is therefore absorbed more slowly. Guarana stimulates resting metabolic rate, and works as both a diuretic and an appetite suppressant.

Citrus Aurantium
Citrus Aurantium is the "bitter orange" commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. It increases metabolism, burns fat, increases energy, and it is a general stimulant. Citrus aurantium's main active compound is synephrine, which is chemically similar to the ephedra alkaloids found in many ever-the-counter cold and allergy medications, and in weight loss supplements containing Ma Huang. However, it does not cross the blood-brain barrier, so it doesn't cause stimulation of the nervous and cardiovascular systems like Ma Huang.

Magnesium
Found commonly in such food sources as artichokes, nuts, beans, whole grains, and shellfish, Magnesium is a mineral shown to help improve nerve and muscle function and increase energy and metabolism. Magnesium is necessary for the secretion and action of insulin. It is also shown to help lower blood pressure. Low magnesium levels have been tied to Syndrome X.

Chromium Picolinate
Chromium is an essential trace mineral that aids in glucose metabolism, regulation of insulin levels, and the maintenance of healthy cholesterol levels. It is commonly found in such foods as meats, whole grains, cheese, mushrooms, prunes, nuts, and asparagus. Chromium deficiency disturbs normal insulin function. Chromium picolinate is a form of the mineral that is well absorbed by the body. It has good "bioavailability," which means it goes right to the glucose receptor sites on cells, working with insulin there to help insure optimal function.

Vanadium
Named for the Norse goddess of youth and beauty, Vanadium is a trace mineral that plays a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, cholesterol, and blood lipids. Vanadium can be found in seafood, mushrooms, certain cereals, and soybeans.

Vanadium helps regulate blood sugar levels as it mimics the effects of insulin on the body. Some studies suggest it also helps in the formation of bones, teeth, and cartilage.

KEEPING THE MOMENTUM

Statistics paint a depressing picture of the overall long-term success of weight loss programs. But it is possible to break the cycle of diet failure and move toward maintaining a healthy weight in a healthy body for years to come. As part of the Reshape America program, Ameri-Slim plays a vital role in changing the way our bodies use the food we eat. In fact, even after you reach your weight loss goal, you should continue to use Ameri-Slim in a lower amount to help keep your metabolism functioning optimally.
